About
Drawn to both writing and visual expression from an early age, Mari discovered her passion for Japanese calligraphy at the age of seven. She trained in traditional calligraphic techniques under Taihô Sawada, a master calligrapher in Matsué, her hometown in Japan, before expanding her practice toward contemporary calligraphy in Paris in 2012 through artistic learnings at Makiko Takei's atelier.
Today, Mari creates original calligraphic artworks and collaborates with artists, cultural institutions, and brands on a variety of projects, ranging from workshops and demonstrations to live calligraphy performances.
